Ovation historian ole db provider4/26/2023 ![]() Either you're not communicating (including controllers to operator stations), the databases go away, or the HMI server goes away. Each of which, if they go down, cause issues in the process. Instead of one server/redundant pair to handle databases, communications, HMI building, etc, they break that functionality out into several servers. But the actual controls are clunky, configured in tabular form instead of a more windows pop up per block environment you'd come to expect in 2022.ĪBB is no doubt solid, but it's very European. Their hardware is solid though, their charm IO is really cool, and their system admin side, software/firmware migrations, and processor upgrades are really simple compared to Honeywell. The software is bland, operator graphics clunky and flat looking, and the software to build them is the least intuitive HMI software I've used. The system as a whole also looked like something from 1998 as well. Delta-V had something similar, but it was clunky and painful to set up. ![]() Honeywell has a custom algorithm block that is really powerfy. I have very little experience with others, but at my previous job we did look at Delta-V, Foxboro, and abb as alternatives when we started upgrading from Honeywell TDC3000.ĭelta-V is solid, but lacked some capabilities in the supervisory control realm that I really liked in Honeywell. ![]() ![]() Price is no object? Honeywell Experion PKS is the Cadillac of DCS's in my opinion.
